Rewarded Interstitial vs Rewarded Popup: Choosing the Right Ad Placement

Compare the two documented rewarded flows and design placements that respect users, handle empty feeds and avoid duplicate rewards.

Ad Spark Team

The best ad format is the one that fits a user's current activity. Ad Spark TMA documents Rewarded Interstitial and Rewarded Popup flows. Start with a clear placement purpose rather than showing more ads simply because you can.

Rewarded Interstitial

The documented interstitial flow is full-screen. Call showAdspark({ ymid: userId }) from a deliberate user action. Its promise resolves when the ad is completed. It can fit an optional bonus after a task, provided you explain the reward before the user chooses to watch.

Rewarded Popup

The documented popup flow uses showAdsparkPopup({ ymid: userId }). It is a lighter popup presentation suited to breaks between rounds. It still needs a deliberate action, completion handling and a clear fallback if an ad is unavailable.

Reward completion, not a click

Treat successful SDK completion as the trigger for your in-app reward. An advertiser click is a separate event and must not be forced. The platform's tracking rules do not justify telling people to click ads or repeatedly open landing pages.

Prevent duplicate actions

Disable the placement's action while an ad request is in progress. Re-enable it after the request finishes, whether it succeeds or fails. Do not let rapid taps create overlapping requests or several rewards for a single completion.

  1. 1Show an explicit optional ad action.
  2. 2Mark the action as busy while requesting the ad.
  3. 3Wait for successful completion before granting the reward.
  4. 4Handle rejection with a neutral retry-later message.
  5. 5Restore normal app controls when the flow ends.

When no ad is available

A rejected promise may mean there is no matching ad for that user. This is not a reason to loop requests indefinitely. Keep the user's progress intact and provide a normal way to continue. If a format is disabled, the SDK can fall back to the other supported flow; do not promise a fixed presentation in every situation.

Compare results responsibly

Evaluate user retention and completion alongside impressions, clicks and earnings. Different countries and reporting hours can have different revenue outcomes. A higher apparent CPM alone does not prove that a placement is better.

There is no guaranteed best-paying format. Test clear placements with genuine users and use reported results, not invented income targets.
